Join us on the Couch as we look back and discuss the 1998 fan favorite comic book hit Blade! This movie was the start of the popular film franchise about the 'Daywalker', half human, half vampire, the Vampire Hunter... Blade! Perfectly casted, and played by Wesley Snipes. This movie has a high re-watchability and represents everything that Couch Potato Theater is all about.

Blade is a 1998 American superhero horror film directed by Stephen Norrington and written by David S. Goyer. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name, it is the first part of the Blade film series. The film stars Wesley Snipes in the title role with Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson and N'Bushe Wright in supporting roles. In the film, Blade is a Dhampir, a human with vampire strengths but not their weaknesses, who together with his mentor Abraham Whistler and hematologist Karen Jenson, fights against vampires, namely the exceptionally vicious Deacon Frost.

Near Dark is a 1987 American neo-Western horror film co-written and directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and starring Adrian Pasdar, Jenny Wright, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen and Jenette Goldstein. The plot follows a young man in a small midwestern town who becomes involved with a family of nomadic American vampires. Despite performing poorly at the box office, critic reviews were very positive. Over the years, the film has gained a cult following.

For this special presentation of Near Dark (1987), your Couch Potato Theater co-hosts Kevin and Erin celebrate one of their favorite movies of all time and discuss why this film means so much to them. Near Dark stars several cast members from the movie Aliens which had just been released in theaters the previous year. Near Dark shows a dark and unique interpretation to the Vampire genre. Kevin and Erin also answer the three big questions that fans have wondered about Near Dark:

The Hair Metal Podcast presents a special tribute episode. The Rock world lost a legendary, inventive and worldwide beloved guitarist and musician. Eddie Van Halen died at age 65 on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, after a long battle with throat cancer. Eddie Van Halen formed the band Van Halen with his brother Alex Van Halen.

Van Halen formed in Pasadena California in 1972, and are credited with "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene". Van Halen was known for its energetic live shows, and for the work of its acclaimed lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
 

Kevin Reitzel is your host for The Hair Metal Podcast. Kevin invited a few special guests for this Hair Metal tribute to Eddie Van Halen. Kevin's special guests are Kyle Wagner, Murf Murphy, Shane DeFreest and Erin Gill.

Kevin and his guests discuss their immediate reactions to the passing of Eddie Van Halen including the reaction of fellow celebrity musicians, TV and movie entertainers. Your Couch Potato Theater host Kevin R. is  joined by Erin G., Jennifer W. and Kyle W. as they discuss their favorite moments, actors, quotes, scenes and trivia from one of the most beloved and influential vampire movies of all time. This movie has a high re-watchability and represents everything that Couch Potato Theater is all about.

The Lost Boys is a black comedy horror film directed by Joel Schumacher, produced by Harvey Bernhard with a screenplay written by Jeffrey Boam. Janice Fischer and James Jeremias wrote the film's story. The film's ensemble cast includes Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, and Barnard Hughes. The title is a reference to the Lost Boys in J. M. Barrie's stories about Peter Pan and Neverland, who, like the vampires, never grow up. Most of the film was shot in Santa Cruz, California.

The Lost Boys Plot Description:
Financial troubles force a recent divorcée and her teenage sons Mike and Sam to settle down with her father in the California town of Santa Carla. The town is plagued by bikers and some mysterious deaths. At first, Sam laughs off rumors he hears about vampires who inhabit the small town, until he makes friends with two other boys who claim to be vampire hunters. But after Mike meets a beautiful girl at the local amusement park, he begins to exhibit the classic signs of vampirism, sleeping days and staying out all night, and is drawn into the gang of bikers by the beautiful girl. The younger boy starts getting into trouble because of his friends' obsession. Fearing for his own safety, Sam recruits the two young vampire hunters to save his brother by finding and destroying the head vampire.

The film is set on the campus of Pacific Tech, a science and engineering university similar to Caltech. Chris Knight (Kilmer) is a genius in his senior year working on a chemical laser. Mitch Taylor (Jarret) is a new student on campus who is paired up with Knight to work on the project.

Real Genius (1985) Plot synopsis:
Mitch Taylor is one of the youngest students ever accepted to a university known for its programs for geniuses. He partners up with his roommate, science club legend Chris Knight, on a project to develop a high-powered laser. Together with their hyperkinetic friends, they employ their intellects in the pursuit of bigger blasts, practical jokes, and a deeper understanding of what real genius means. When they find out that their professor intends to turn their work over to the military for use as a weapon, they decide to get even.

The Karate Kid follows Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), a teenager taught Gōjū-ryū karate by Mr. Miyagi (Morita) to help defend himself and compete in a tournament against his bullies.

Highlander: Endgame was released in the USA on September 1st, 2000. To help celebrate, we have a special guest interview with actor Ian Paul Cassidy, 'Cracker Bob' of Highlander: Endgame (2000). 

Your Blood of Kings Highlander podcast hosts Kevin and Lee have another epic extended interview with Highlander: Endgame actor Ian Paul Cassidy, who portrayed one of the villains of Jacob Kell's immortal posse; 'Cracker Bob'. Ian was very generous with his time, as this is the second of two interviews he granted us. Kevin and Lee interview Ian about his Highlander Endgame 'Virtual Scrap Book', that contains hundreds of behind the scenes pictures that Ian took on his personal camera. Which include his training and filming on the Romania set of Highlander: Endgame. These pictures also include many after hours adventures of fun and sightseeing that Ian and his fellow cast members did to unwind and relax.

It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in guerrilla-held territory in Central America, who encounter the deadly Predator, a technologically-advanced alien who stalks and hunts them down.

Your DragonCon Predator Costume Group members are Johnny Karzai (Blain), Wendell Smith (Mac), John Cage (Dillon), William Jay (Poncho) and Keith Mandeville (Hawkins). Not only are these guys huge fans of this original Predator movie, they are experts on the Predator characters, music, dialog, most rewatchable scenes and the overall history of this iconic film. Predator not only is one of those most revered action sci-fi movies of all time, its also a movie that has aged extremely well, for a 33 year old film.

Your Blood of Kings hosts Kevin & Lee, and special guest Ian also wanted to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Highlander Endgame. Ian talks about his character Cracker Bob, his experiences working on the film and with his fellow co-stars, including Adrian Paul, Bruce Payne, Donnie Yen and his adventures behind the scenes, including hanging out with Christopher Lambert. Kevin and Lee also talk with Ian about his special Highlander project that he's been working on, a Highlander Endgame "Virtual Scrap Book" that contains hundreds of behind the scenes pictures that Ian took on his personal camera, while doing his training and filming on the Romania set of Highlander: Endgame. These pictures also include many after hours adventures of fun and sightseeing that Ian and his fellow cast members did to unwind and relax. On the next episode of Part 2 of Blood Of Kings Highlander Podcast 136, Ian Paul Cassidy will be back on to discuss the Highlander Endgame "Virtual Scrap Book" in more detail, so stay tuned!

Timed to coincide with the launch of the ultimate book on the attraction! “Blackpool Remembered” is the work of our guests, writer John Collier and artist/designer Alex Storer.

Regular voices Simon Horton and Dan Hadley can barely finish their Candy Floss as they reminisce over the sights and sounds of the exhibition, so fondly remembered by 70’s and 80’s kids. John and Alex explain how they pooled skills as well as memory banks on the project. In time gathering an army of contributors for this ambitious Ebook. Even if you never got to go, you’ll feel like you did once you listen in!

Join Kevin, Kyle and Hayley for this very fun Couch Potato Theater podcast as we look back and celebrate one of the most entertaining film adaptations of The Three Musketeers. The Three Musketeers is a 1993 action-adventure comedy film from Walt Disney Pictures, Caravan Pictures, and The Kerner Entertainment Company, directed by Stephen Herek from a screenplay by David Loughery. It stars Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O'Donnell, Oliver Platt, Tim Curry, and Rebecca De Mornay. The film is loosely based on the 1844 novel The Three Musketeers (Les Trois Mousquetaires) by Alexandre Dumas. It recounts the adventures of D'Artagnan on his quest to join the three title characters in becoming a musketeer.  

The Three Musketeers Plot Synopsis:
The three best of the disbanded Musketeers - Athos (Kiefer Sutherland), Porthos (Oliver Platt), and Aramis (Charlie Sheen) - join a young hotheaded would-be-Musketeer, D'Artagnan (Chris O'Donnell), to stop Cardinal Richelieu's (Tim Curry's) evil plot: to form an alliance with enemy England by way of the mysterious Countess D'Winter (Rebecca De Mornay). Rochefort (Michael Wincott), the Cardinal's right-hand man, announces the official disbanding of the King's Musketeers. Three, however, refuse to throw down their swords - Athos, the fighter and drinker, Porthos, the pirate and lover, and Aramis, the priest and poet. Arriving in Paris to join the Musketeers, D'Artagnan uncovers the Cardinal's plans, and the four set out on a mission to protect King Louis (Hugh O'Conor) and France.

 

Kevin, Kyle and Hayley discuss why this film is one of their favorites from the 1990's and represents everything that Couch Potato Theater is all about.
