There’ve been Doctor Who comic strips for almost as long as there’s been Doctor Who! The Doctor’s have rarely been out of British comics since 1964. In recent decades the international comic book market also published a succession of titles in the Marvel or DC format, employing some of the industry's most exciting talents to write and draw!

Christopher Jones is a comics professional: illustrator, storyboard artist and Educator from America who’s loved Doctor Who for years! Having worked for the “big two” and in television bringing to life some of pop cultures most colourful characters, he was a natural fit to draw classic incarnations of the Doctor. Now he’s returned to the Whoniverse as one of the creators involved in this exciting new graphic novel tying into the 60th anniversary, “Once Upon A Time Lord”.

Christopher joins regular host, Dan Hadley to preview the book, tell the story of his action-packed career and disclose the extent of his passion for our favourite television series. HAIR METAL Podcast EP.24: Hear 'N Aid (1986) "Stars" An All-Star Album For Famine Relief.

The Hair Metal Podcast looks back at the Thrash, Glam & Rock Pop Metal bands, music, events and everything else that heavily influenced the 80's & early 90's Hair Metal music era. On this episode of the Hair Metal Podcast, hosts Kevin and Mike discuss the monumental metal music event of the 80's, Hear 'N Aid (1986) "Stars" An All-Star Album For Famine Relief. 

Hear 'n Aid was a charity record recorded by a large ensemble of 40 heavy metal musicians and released in 1986. The project was organized by Ronnie James Dio, Jimmy Bain, and Vivian Campbell, all from the band Dio. Proceeds from the album were used to raise over $3 million for famine relief in Africa. The 40 metal and rock  musicians were gathered together by Dio and recorded the single "Stars" together while the rest of the album was filled out with eight other tracks, several of which were contributed by artists who were on tour and unable to attend and participate in the mass recording session. A music video was released as well, produced during the recording sessions. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:)

Road House is a 1989 American action film directed by Rowdy Herrington. Its plot follows a cooler at a newly refurbished roadside bar who protects a small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman. The film has gone on to be a cult classic, being voted the most watched film on cable in 2020. A sequel, Road House 2, was released in 2006. We also review the new Road House (2024), the remake was released in March of 2024 on Amazon Prime, starring Jake Gyllenhaal & Conor McGregor, directed by Doug Liman.

BULLWHIP COMBATIVES AT MULTIPLE RANGES with Sensei Anthony De Longis and Grand Master Ron Lew 

The culmination of over 100 years of collective martial arts training and experience. Offering great options for both martial and performance choreography applications.

Sensei De Longis created and refined his “De Longis Rolling Loop” methodology based on five decades of European sword training with Maestro Ralph Faulkner, Filipino bladed weapons with Guro Dan Inosanto and Japanese katana with Kaiso Toshishiro Obata and Sensei Mathew Lynch. He often refers to the whip as a 'super-sonic flexible blade'. His unique methods utilize structure and alignment to produce explosive accurate energy with maximum efficiency and minimum effort and offers a variety of precision strikes and body envelopments at Long Range. The De Longis method also employs effective Medium and Close Range combative applications utilizing the companion hand as well as the Baton, Punyo / Pommel and ‘Big Loop’ Thong for striking, redirecting, trapping and submission techniques.

Sensei De Longis invited Senior Grand Master Ron Lew to join the exploration. SGM Lew developed his own unique close range bullwhip martial arts form called the Tibetan Wave, based on his work in Tai Chi, Tibetan energy work, and Cacoy Canete Doces Pares Eskrima and Eskrido.

Timecop is a 1994 American science fiction action film directed by Peter Hyams and co-written by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. Richardson also served as executive producer. The film is based on Timecop, a story created by Richardson, written by Verheiden, and drawn by Ron Randall, which appeared in the anthology comic Dark Horse Comics, published by Dark Horse Comics. It is the first installment in the Timecop franchise.

The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Max Walker, a police officer in 1994 and later a U.S. federal agent in 2004, when time travel has been made possible. It also stars Ron Silver as a corrupt politician and Mia Sara as Melissa Walker, the agent's wife. The story follows Walker's life as he fights time-travel crime and investigates the politician's plans.

Timecop remains Van Damme's highest-grossing film as a lead actor (his second to break the $100 million barrier worldwide.) Although met with mixed reviews, it is generally regarded by critics as one of Van Damme's best films.

Rock Star is a 2001 American film directed by Stephen Herek from a script by John Stockwell, and starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. It tells the story of Chris "Izzy" Cole, a tribute band singer who ascends to the position of lead vocalist in his favorite band. The script was inspired by the real-life story of Tim "Ripper" Owens, a singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who was chosen to replace singer Rob Halford when he temporarily left the band.

Payback is a 1999 American neo-noir action thriller film written and directed by Brian Helgeland in his directorial debut, and starring Mel Gibson, Gregg Henry, Maria Bello, and David Paymer. It is based on the novel The Hunter by Donald E. Westlake using the pseudonym Richard Stark, which had earlier been adapted into the 1967 film noir classic Point Blank, directed by John Boorman and starring Lee Marvin.

 

In 2006, director Brian Helgeland issued a director's cut that differs substantially from the version released by the studio. In this episode of Couch Potato Theater we discuss the huge differences of the theatrical and director's cut of Payback (1999).

A new Star Wars movie has officially been announced to start filming this year - and it's Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu! We are so excited about the possibility of the original Disney+ Star Wars stars making their way to the big screen (presumably...) that we've decided to thaw out the Drunken Gungan cockpit and take the old girl out on another run for the first new podcast episode of 2024. And joining us for the first time on the show to discuss this possibility is Will "Madeye" Moody - a longtime member of our Team 42 card gaming club and fan of the show. Join us as we talk about what we'd love to see in the Mando Movie, what we hope NOT to see in it and what we realistically expect will be in the Mando Movie.
