Culture Clash 82: Getting back to Normal (or as normal as we get)

April 21, 2018
00:0000:00

Well between cleaning up all the orange soda and other things left behing by Michael Morris and Alex Autrey, plus the matter of Kyle's slave to taxes status it has been a minute here at the Culture Clash but Kevin and Kyle are BACK BABY!!!  Not only are they back they are back with a Thrum Scissorpunch!!! See if the guys can get the show back on track after the April Fools Hijinx and the overdose of Taylor Lautner.

As for what was covered in this weeks episode, well there is some Solo, there is some EXCELLENT adventure, we might even have to call in a doctor even if it seems a little strange?  Oh and we learn Kevin's love for Buck Rodgers to and really what more do you need??

We are back so really  LET'S DO THIS THING!

Ready Player One Special 2: Yes we Get to the Good Part!

April 20, 2018
00:0000:00

Welcome to the second of the Fandom Podcast Networks Ready Player One specials.  This however is no ordinary special as we have logged into the Oasis and arranged a team-up with Chris Cantley of the Get to the Good Part Podcast.  For those of you who may not be familiar Get to the Good Part is currently doing a great chapter by chapter show on Ready Player One.

For this show we talk with Chris about his thoughts on the movie and how it stands out from the book but does it represent the book well.  We also talk about the things we love that are Ready Player One and what maybe we wish we saw from the book but also what the movie gave us that maybe the book didn't, plus we even look at what might be next.

So grab Anorak's Almanac, throw it into reverse, get your giant mech and your pop culture references ready because it is time to once again dive into the Oasis and talk some Ready Player One!

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 73: CIMOLI’S CHOICE - The Immortal Cimoli Part Two: The Commentary

April 9, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 73: CIMOLI'S CHOICE - The Immortal Cimoli Part Two: The Commentary

Continuing their discussion from Episode 72, both Norman C. Lao and Mike Sellers dive even deeper with a LIVE...well recorded "live" commentary on Highlander: The Series THE IMMORTAL CIMOLI from Season Four.

During the commentary, both Norm and Mike discover so many nuanced and revealing character moments in the development of Danny Cimoli as he learns how to use and abuse his newly discovered immortal ability. Danny just wanted to have his moment in the literal spotlight. However this ignorance and immaturity towards THE GAME strained his relationships with Duncan and Amanda as they tried to give hime the tools and experience necessary to survive the violence of the immortal existence.

Norm and Mike also speculate on why Damon Case really IS NOT a villain and is quite possibly one of the purest "players of The Game" and represents the strictest nature of the rules as we understand them and how they apply to the classic adage of Highlander, "There can be only ONE!"

So please join Norm and Mike for PART TWO of their deep dive examination into the world of THE IMMORTAL CIMOLI.

Culture Clash Special: Ready Player One Reactions!

April 7, 2018
00:0000:00

In the first of TWO Ready Player One reaction shows Kevin and Kyle are joined by longtime FPNet contributor (and apparent CEO) Matt Clifton to get all of our reactions to Ready Player One.  What we loved, what we thought of the differences between the movie and the book and maybe what we wish had made it from the book into the movie and what the Movie did right.  Then in a special interview Kevin and Kyle are joined by fellow FPNet Co-Founder Norman Lao as we get his very interesting perspective on the film as he was the one who turned everyone here at FPNet onto the book in the first place.

So join us as we log into the Oasis for our first of two Ready Player One reaction shows and keep your eyes peeled for our second show with our friends from the Get to the Good Part podcast!

The the hunter for the Egg begin!

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 72: CIMOLI’S CHOICE - The Immortal Cimoli Part One: The Retrospective

March 28, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 72: CIMOLI'S CHOICE - The Immortal Cimoli Part One: The Retrospective

For this special CIMOLI'S CHOICE episode, the Blood of Kings team has made special arrangements with Watcher's Headquarters to bring in an EXPERT in the subject for this week's podcast. With Norm on this episode of Blood of Kings, is fellow Highlander expert and the main editor for Blood of Kings...Mike Sellers.

Norm discusses with Mike: Why is the Immortal Cimoli so near and dear to Mike that it earned his EDITOR'S PICK (known as Cimoli's Choice) for the subject matter of a Blood of Kings podcast over ALL other episodes...except for Season 3's Take Back the Night which we covered in Blood of Kings podcasts 48 and 49.

Also, we discuss in great detail one of the most misunderstood Immortal "villains" in Highlander: The Series - Damon Case. Many fans think of him as "evil", but is that a fair assessment of who he is? Is Damon Case a villain...OR is he solely playing by the strict rules of the game and does that make him evil because he is at certain odds with our HERO Duncan MacLeod?

So please join Norm and Mike for PART ONE of a two part deep dive RETROSPECTIVE into the world of The Immortal Cimoli

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Kingmaker #8 Special: Interview with Amanda herself, Elizabeth Gracen!

March 23, 2018
00:0000:00

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Kingmaker #8 Special: Interview with Amanda herself, Elizabeth Gracen!

Welcome Highlander Fans to a very special Kingmakers Episode on Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast, here on the Fandom Podcast Network. We interview the amazing Elizabeth Gracen!

Recently on Blood of Kings episodes #70 & #71, we covered the Highlander The Raven two part episodes "A Matter of Time" & " The French Connection". Once again, our beloved Elizabeth Gracen takes center stage as AMANDA, our favorite mischievous cat-burglar from Highlander The TV Series. Kevin and Norman are proud to present this exclusive interview with star of Highlander The Raven, Amanda Darieux herself... Elizabeth Gracen!

In this exclusive interview, we talk to Elizabeth about her experience at the Highlander Worldwide Convention in Los Angeles last October of 2017. We also discuss her and Adrian's amazing performance in "Love Letters" at that convention. Then we dive deep into Highlander The Raven as Elizabeth talks about the production moving from Vancouver to Toronto, working with Helen Wu and learning the martial art of The Flying Rainbow Fan Kata. We keep discussing The Raven production with Elizabeth and working again with Jim Byrnes and Valentine Pelka. We also ask the big question... where does Amanda hide that sword?

But it wouldn't be a Highlander interview unless we talk to Elizabeth about her experience working on the original Highlander TV series. Norman and Kevin discuses the episodes that Amanda appeared in, and their favorites. Elizabeth also talk about her favorite episodes and moments from the Highlander TV series. And last but not least, we talk to Elizabeth about the many projects she's currently working on including the documentary about Lee Meriwether, Cat Woman from the 1966 Batman movie and former Miss America in 1954, the year of the first live telecast.

On behalf of Blood of Kings, Kevin and Norman would like to thank the lovely Elizabeth for her time and this awesome interview! Oh and you get to hear Norman "fan boy" for a bit, LOL! Enjoy the show!

Please leave us a review on iTunes! Search "Fandom Podcast Network" on iTunes and please leave a review for Blood of Kings. We would love to hear your feedback, and we will give you a shout out on a future episode of Blood of Kings.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 71: Highlander The Raven / Episode Review Part 2: The French Connection

March 14, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 71: Highlander The Raven / Episode Review Part 2: The French Connection

Kevin and Norm continue their discussion on Highlander THE RAVEN with PART TWO of a two-part in-depth look at two incredibly pivotal episodes of the first and only season of the series: A Matter of Time and The French Connection.

Once again, our beloved Elizabeth Gracen takes center stage as AMANDA, our favorite mischievous cat-burglar from Highlander: The Series. Along with her intrepid co-star Paul Johansson as the relentless Nick Wolf, and in the very best of the Highlander: The Series' traditions, they return to the city of Paris and a location that is very near and dear to the hearts of Highlander fans all over the world. Also returning is the legendary Valentine Pelka in a completely new role as the charismatically evil "James Bond level" of villain...Andre Korda.

According to the great JOHN MOSBY, "A Matter Of Time / The French Connection are the watershed episodes for The Raven, the moment where the series fully embraces its Highlander heritage...in more ways than one." - Fearful Symmetry: The Essential Guide to All Things Highlander

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast Episode 18: Quantum Leap Drive - The Orville Season One Retrospective

March 9, 2018
00:0000:00
DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 18: Quantum Leap Drive - The Orville Season One Retrospective

Since the Season Finale of THE ORVILLE on December 7th, 2017, The Orville fanbases online and around the world have been deprived of a show that gained so much momentum and respect for a series that most expected to go nowhere...and some expect to be flat out cancelled as is the FOX network's tradition with most of its science fiction programming.

Season Two has recently started filming so that means its the perfect time to engage the QUANTUM DRIVE and LEAP all the way back to early September 2017 for our REWATCH with a look back at Season One and how it changed and challenged the landscape of science fiction TV as we know it!

We will be covering ALL of The Orville Season One on this and many upcoming DiscoVille podcasts, so this is the PERFECT time for NEW Orvillians to join us. We will also be discussing many of the heavier Star Trek: The Next Generation influences that helped shape The Orville with our special guest star Amy Nelson's expertise, as she draws several interesting parallels between The Orville and ST: TNG.

So let's make sure our sodas are in their cup holders and the Bridge cat is safe and snug as we ENGAGE the QUANTUM DRIVE!!!

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 70: Highlander The Raven / Episode Review Part 1: A Matter of Time

March 8, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 70: Highlander The Raven / Episode Review Part 1: A Matter of Time

On this 70th episode of Blood of Kings, Kevin and Norm return to Highlander THE RAVEN with PART ONE of a two-part in-depth look at two incredibly pivotal episodes of the first and only season of the series: A Matter of Time and The French Connection. Once again, our beloved Elizabeth Gracen takes the center stage as AMANDA, our favorite mischievous cat-burglar from Highlander: The Series along with her intrepid co-star Paul Johansson as the relentless Nick Wolf...and the return of Highlander alumni Jim Byrnes reprising his legendary role as Watcher Joe Dawson, and...Valentine Pelka in a completely new role as the charismatically evil Andre Korda.

According to the great JOHN MOSBY, "A Matter Of Time / The French Connection are the watershed episodes for The Raven, the moment where the series fully embraces its Highlander heritage...in more ways than one." - Fearful Symmetry: The Essential Guide to All Things Highlander

Kevin and Norm also take a very detailed look at one of the most signature elements of A Matter of Time; a flashback scene where Elizabeth Gracen's Amanda learns The FLYING RAINBOW FAN Martial Art from THE MASTER of this art, Helen Wu, who's teachings inspired Elizabeth to pursue this art beyond the series into creating her very own teaching workshop: Elizabeth Gracen's Fan Kata Class.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 69: Highlander The Promise - Methos Audio Book

February 28, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 69: Highlander The Promise - Methos Audio Book

For centuries, they battled the forces of light, murdering, pillaging and terrorizing their way across the globe. Then, through the betrayal of one of their number, the Four Horsemen rode no longer. But before their ultimate end, each was the target of a very personal vendetta striking to the core of the Horsemen's seemingly unbreakable bond. Now the secret history of The Four Horsemen,  Kronos, Silas, Caspian and Methos can finally be revealed...

In 2009 Big Finish Audio released the first season of four audio books on CD of their Highlander series, featuring Adrian Paul reprising his iconic character of Duncan MacLeod. In 2011 a second season of four audio books was released highlighting each of The Four Horsemen, featured in the Highlander TV show. And retuning to voice their iconic characters of The Four Horsemen, the actors who portrayed them, Valentine Pelka (Kronos), Richard Ridings (Silas), Marcus Testory (Caspian) and Peter Wingfield (Methos).

In this special episode of Blood of Kings, we feature a retrospective, and fondly look back at the fourth and final audio book of this series "The Promise" featuring Peter Wingfield as Methos. Written by James Moran, this story catches up with Methos after the events of The Four Horsemen, as he takes his own special revenge on an old immortal, by the name of Dilijan, that not only engineered the demise of the Four Horsemen, but also took the life of Methos one true love, Violetta. However, Methos is bound by "The Promise" he made to his dying Violetta, not to kill Dilijan. So the man once known as "Death", Methos plan of revenge is set in place which leads to a fate worse than death.

So please enjoy this special episode of Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast, Highlander The Promise, a Methos Audio Book.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 68: How Can There Ever Be Only One?

February 21, 2018

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 68: How Can There Ever Be Only One?

On January 28, 2018...one of our newer Blood of Kings Facebook Group members Cleaver Crawford asked a very interesting question to the community...

"I have one question, how can there ever be only one, when new immortals are made everyday when someone new dies?"

This started one of the fastest and most engaging threads that both Kevin and Norm have ever seen on the Blood of Kings community page and inspired some incredibly in-depth and well constructed conversations and theories; some of which go all the way back to the original "alt.tv.highlander" and "Rysher forums" days of yore!

This episode of Blood of Kings is 100% dedicated to this amazing thread and the passion that it stirred up amongst all of the Blood of Kings community of fans who prove to Kevin and Norm time and time again...that this is the absolute best Highlander fanbase out there today!!! Thank you Cleaver Crawford for such an amazing topic for discussion.

Time Warp: 1985 The Movies, Part 1

February 20, 2018
00:0000:00

Time Warp: 1985 The Movies, Part 1.

Welcome to the Fandom Podcast Network's special presentation of

Time Warp: 1985 The Movies, Part 1. In this special edition of Time Warp, your hosts Kevin Reitzel, Kyle Wagner, Erin Gill and special guest co-host Alex Autrey will cover the first three months of the year in movies , and pop culture for 1985

Over the last couple of years here at the Fandom Podcast Network, we celebrated the movies of 1986 & 1987. We made a case for 1986 & 1987 being some of the best years in movies. But we though we would challenge this again, and look back on the fantastic year of movies and pop culture of 1985!
And to quote Erin Gill... "1985 is the most 80's year... of the 1980s."
Welcome to Part 1 of 4 of the Time Warp: 1985, The Movies. In the episode, we will cover the movies released in the months of

-          January

-          February

-          March

Here is a small sample of the many movies we will cover in Part 1 of Time Warp: 1985:

-   Witness

-   The Breakfast Club

-   Tuff Turf

-   The Sure Thing

-   Malibu Express

-   Turk 182

-   Vision Quest

-   Missing in Action 2: The Beginning

-   The Last Dragon

-   Desperately Seeking Susan

1985 gave us a great year in movies, an that's what we are here to celebrate  on this special presentation of the Time Warp here on the Fandom Podcast Network. Many 1985 movies became legendary with box office receipts to back it up. Some became cult classics. And some 1985 movies were so bad, they were good. And well... some we're just plain bad. 1985 also gave birth to many of our current classic fandoms and pop culture we still celebrate today. We will celebrate, debate and discuss this fantastic year of movies in 1985.

So travel back in time with us, and enjoy, Time Warp: 1985 The Movies, Part 1.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 67: Adrian Paul Interview & #SwordXP Atlanta Recap

Here we are at our final episode dedicated to Highlander ENDGAME. Truth be told, it was because of a very special event that inspired Kevin and Norm to choose ENDGAME as their first podcast theme for the beginning of Blood of Kings Season Three. Kevin attended the Atlanta Sword Experience because it was advertised that a very special choreography FROM Endgame was going to be taught...and "could" be one of THE most memorable sequences in the history of Highlander...the final duel between Duncan and Connor MacLeod.

Kevin also was able to sit down with the Highlander himself ADRIAN PAUL for a fantastic interview on Adrian's ENDGAME memories as he even shared a few details of what is coming up for the #SwordXP. Kevin also had a chance to interview #SwordXP Musketeer extraordinaire Priscilla Manriquez, read a special message with his #SwordXP partner David Edwards and share an incredible Highlander life changing moment with new friend of the show D.J. Stokes.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 66: Endgame Reactions “The Fans Have Spoken!”

February 5, 2018

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 66: Endgame Reactions "The Fans Have Spoken!"

This episode of Blood of Kings is dedicated to our amazing Blood of Kings Facebook FAMILY that has grown and evolved into something so incredibly special...

Welcome to the THIRD Endgame themed episode..."The Fans Have Spoken!"...recorded because the fan reaction to Blood of Kings Episodes 64 and 65 has been so voluminous and passionate! This reaction show started with a private message that Norm received from Highlander Heart's very own GRANT KEMPSTER, followed up almost immediately by Blood of Kings sister listener SHAN O' CONNOR; both of whom had so much to say and share about their ENDGAME reactions and experiences.

Kevin and Norm "thought" that they were finished with what was supposed to be a standard, two-part deep dive of Highlander: ENDGAME. But the Blood of Kings fans...their passion could not be contained!!! So much so...that Norm decided to open up a REACTIONS THREAD on the official Blood of Kings Facebook page. The results were astounding and had to be recorded for a podcast!

Please join your Blood of Kings team as they continue their "deep dive" study of ENDGAME, the fourth movie of the cult classic Highlander franchise. In this podcast, Kevin and Norm enjoy deconstructing one of the most beloved films in Highlander Cinematic Universe, as ENDGAME also marked the reunion of both Duncan AND Connor MacLeod who were last seen together on the television series premiere episode THE GATHERING...25 years ago.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast Episode 15: The Saru-Win Scenario

February 2, 2018

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 15: The Saru-Win Scenario

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery and The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

On this podcast titled "The Saru-Win Scenario", we extensively cover Star Trek DISCOVERY episode 13: What's Past Is Prologue as The Orville is on hiatus until later this Fall 2018. For context...What's Past Is Prologue is a quotation by William Shakespeare from his play The Tempest. In contemporary use, the phrase stands for the idea that history sets the context for the present. In this case...since Discovery takes place approximately 10 years before Kirk and Spock, are we to now believe that certain "firsts" from The Original Series are now no longer that case - such as the "ION STORM transporter beam malfunction" as first seen in the celebrated classic Original Series episode MIRROR MIRROR? Also in this podcast, we celebrate one of the finest moments in Discovery...as our episode title suggests.

Sitting in with us and waiting to kick any traitors to the Fandom Podcast Network into the FPN
s  Spore Reactor is Kyle Wagner...who may be suffering from a little bit of day old Kelpian.

Thanks to everyone out there for tuning in and supporting our show and for making this podcast so incredibly fun to do for all or you. And thank you to our Facebook and Social media followers for sending in so many fantastic questions and comments of which we were able to address several in this show.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 65: Highlander ENDGAME: The Commentary

January 29, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 65: Highlander ENDGAME: The Commentary

Please join your Blood of Kings team as they continue their "deep dive" study of ENDGAME, the fourth movie of the cult classic Highlander franchise. In this podcast, Kevin and Norm enjoy deconstructing one of the most beloved films in Highlander Cinematic Universe, as ENDGAME also marked the reunion of both Duncan AND Connor MacLeod who were last seen together on the television series premiere episode THE GATHERING...25 years ago.

However, not all went according to the general Highlander fandom's expectations. All of the pieces were in place for this film to succeed where the sequels Highlander 2: The Quickening (and its subsequent versions) and Highlander 3: The Final Dimension stumbled and many times failed to extend the legacy of what the first film achieved, cementing the epitaph "There Can Be Only One...FILM!". With several mis-fires in the theatrical version, Highlander ENDGAME, could have changed the paradigm for the future. However, fan expectation for this film in particular was incredibly high and the internet was becoming a viable tool to share much of the fans concerns...especially where the "rules of the game" - a staple element of the Highlander universe - were forcibly changed to usher in a "whole new ball game" as one of the characters stated.
Please join the Blood of Kings team as they present to you PART TWO of their deep dive study on Highlander ENDGAME!

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 14: Looking for Lorca In All The Wrong Places

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery and The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

On this podcast titled "Looking for Lorca In All The Wrong Places" - we extensively cover Star Trek DISCOVERY'S Episode 12 VAULTING AMBITION as The Orville is on hiatus until later this Fall 2018. Discovery is certainly living up to it's series name as we are finally "discovering" in this slow burning and dramatic unveiling...who is the REAL Captain Gabriel Lorca...but more importantly...WHY Michael Burnham means so much to him and his plans. Also...we discover that there is a certain Imperial Delicacy and a new meaning behind "Keep your friends close...but keep your Kelpian friends closer!" We also take a moment to discuss "The World of the Orville" - the first "official" book that covers the making of and behind the scenes of Seth MacFarlane's hit TV series on the Fox Network.

Sitting in with us and manning the FPN dining room for this episode is our incredibly talented co-founder, editor extraordinaire and our personal chef who prepares Kelpian as finely as any imperial chef...Kyle Wagner.

Thanks to everyone out there for tuning in and supporting our show and for making this podcast so incredibly fun to do for all or you. And thank you to our Facebook and Social media followers for sending in so many fantastic questions and comments of which we were able to address several in this show.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 64: Highlander ENDGAME: The Retrospective

January 23, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 64: Highlander ENDGAME: The Retrospective

In September of 2000, Highlander ENDGAME was released to world-wide audiences as the fourth movie of the cult classic Highlander franchise. This film was the very first appearance of Adrian Paul as Duncan MacLeod on the BIG screen, after enjoying a wonderful and successful 6 season run on the critically acclaimed television series of this same franchise. ENDGAME also marked the reunion of both Duncan AND Connor MacLeod who were last seen together on the television series premiere episode THE GATHERING, as Christopher Lambert reprised his iconic role of Connor MacLeod; the character that launched this franchise nearly 32 years ago in 1986.

Please join the Blood of Kings team as they present to you PART ONE of their deep dive study on Highlander ENDGAME!

From character reveals that get dropped on unsuspecting audiences like a Tri-Cobalt warhead...to plot twists and turns more volatile than unstable wormholes, Discovery continues to have audiences clinging on its every storytelling second as no one is exactly who they appear to be in the Mirror Universe. To borrow a familiar phrase...TRUST NO ONE.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 12: Black Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery and The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

On this episode titled Black Mirror Mirror on the Wall, we discuss not only the explosive mid-season series return of Star Trek Discovery (January 8th, 2017), but in lieu of The Orville being on "hiatus" until later this year, we decided to take a look at the critically acclaimed Season 4 Premiere of the Netflix Series BLACK MIRROR titled USS CALLISTER, which was a VERY dark look at an incredibly thought provoking issue...skinned in a very familiar science-fiction franchise.

Sitting in with us and manning the Agonizer Booths for this episode is our Chief Engineer and co-founder of the TERRAN EMPIRE NETWO....I mean Fandom Podcast Network - Mr. Kyle Wagner.

Thanks to everyone out there for tuning in and supporting our show and for making this podcast so incredibly fun to do for all or you. We are excited to be back on the air and look forward to another fantastic season of DiscoVille in 2018. HAPPY NEW YEAR from all of us at The Fandom Podcast Network!

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 62: Blood of Kings Season 2…The Year in Review

January 10, 2018

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 62: Blood of Kings Season 2...The Year in Review

Your Blood of Kings FOUR HORSEMEN - Kevin, Norm, Mike and Kyle (hmmm...two K's for Ken Gord's K equation!) - ride all together once again to discuss Blood of Kings Season 2 "The Year in Review!" Season Two of our podcast was just a phenomenal year for us and so many incredible things happened...but it all started two years ago with a very fortuitous phone call in January of 2016, when Kevin reached out to Norm with an extremely brilliant idea for the Fandom Podcast Network; to create a show solely focused on the Highlander franchise!

Over 60 episodes later - starting with the FPN Highlander 30th Anniversary Commentary and the FANDOM FLASHBACK 5 part series, your Blood of Kings team worked incredibly hard to bring the Highlander community - thoughtful and insightful commentary to all things Highlander. Please enjoy our YEAR IN REVIEW and stay tuned because as good as 2017 was for Blood of Kings...2018's Season Three is going to be even better!

THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of you, our BELOVED Blood of Kings Facebook and online family. We love producing this show for you and it is so inspiring to know that there is still this incredible HIGHLANDER franchise family that cares about the legacy so very much. We do this show for YOU!

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 61: BoK Fan Choice: DUENDE Part 2: The Commentary

January 3, 2018
00:0000:00
Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 61: BoK Fan Choice: DUENDE Part 2: The Commentary

Please join your Blood of Kings team as they continue their "deep dive" study of DUENDE, as chosen by our very first iTunes review contest winner LEE FILLINGSNESS. In this podcast, Kevin and Norm enjoy deconstructing one of the most famous episodes in Highlander The Series and discover even deeper ands more complex meanings and motivations behind one of Highlander's greatest villains...Otavio Consone.

Lee chose DUENDE for several special reasons. He wrote to Blood of Kings, "The art of Destreza has fascinated me ever since this episode and it opened my eyes to the intricacy of western martial arts. To that point I had done sport fencing and pretended to be Robin Hood." He continued, "I also appreciated the dance aspect in this show because it illustrated one of the more interesting elements of Duncan, his sophistication."

DUENDE is an episode of Highlander that is also extremely special because friend of the show Anthony De Longis created the indelible Otavio Consone; an Immortal who's morality was as complex as his fighting style of La Verdadera Destreza. Anthony also introduced Highlander fans to the beauty and the allure of the Mysterious Circle and a fighting philosophy that he introduced to many through this episode of television, for the very first time. Please join us as we take an incredibly in-depth look at what is easily in the TOP 10 if not TOP 5 episodes of most Highlander fans and discover a few NEW things about this beloved story.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast
Episode 60: BoK Fan Choice: DUENDE Part 1: A Retrospective

One of the things that Kevin and Norm love most about having created the Blood of Kings Podcast, is the growth of the amazing HIGHLANDER Fan Community on Facebook and Social Media. Listener and fan interaction is incredibly important to promoting new discussions in all aspects of the Highlander universe. One BOK fan in particular, LEE FILLINGSNESS, won our very first iTunes Review contest and chose DUENDE as his fan-pick to be covered in this very special "two-parter" podcast deconstructing one of the most famous episodes in Highlander The Series: DUENDE.

Lee chose DUENDE for several special reasons. He wrote to Blood of Kings, "The art of Destreza has fascinated me ever since this episode and it opened my eyes to the intricacy of western martial arts. Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast

Kingmaker #7 Special, The Gathering Recap w/ Carmel Macpherson & John Mosby

Welcome Highlander Fans to a very special Kingmakers Episode on Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast - here on the Fandom Podcast Network.

Earlier this fall, on the weekend of October 20th - 22nd, something extremely special and magical took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. HIGHLANDER fans from all over the world descended upon that hotel to take part in the 10th Highlander Worldwide convention called THE GATHERING, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the TV Series. From veterans, to newbies, the love and passion for the Highlander franchise was welcoming and infectious as old friendships were rekindled, new friendships blossomed and all were united under the banner of Highlander Worldwide.

Your Blood of Kings hosts Kevin & Norman welcomes the two people that were responsible for pulling off such an amazing event. Our special guests on the show are here to update this exciting news. We would like to welcome back:

• Carmel Macpherson, President of Highlander Worldwide and lead organizer of "The Gathering" A Highlander Convention"

• John Mosby: Author of "Fearful Symmetry, The Essential Guide To All Things Highlander"

As Kevin and Norman reflect on THE GATHERING with Carmel and John, and what it meant to the fans of Highlander. We cover many topics looking back on this very memorable event such as, the most challenging aspect of producing the convention, what planning details materialized for them easily, what didn't come to fruition no matter how hard they tried, What surprised them most about the convention, and what was the most consistent piece of feedback they received from the convention.

Carmel also gives us an update on the Go Fund Me Campaign for The Gathering Convention DVD production, including when the DVD will be ready for release. And Carmel also discusses the future for Highlander Worldwide and the website future updates.

Kevin and Norman save the big question for last for both John and Carmel...where do we go from here? What is next on the HLWW horizon and are they looking ahead to a potential HIGHLANDER 30th Anniversary convention??

Both Kevin and Norman wanted to personally thank both Carmel and John for all of their very hard work and effort they put into the recent Highlander Worldwide TV Show 25th Anniversary Convention. We are proud to welcome them back to Blood of Kings!

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast Episode 10: First Officer, Second Guesser?

December 6, 2017

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 10: First Officer, Second Guesser?

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery AND The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

For this episode it is all about being NUMBER ONE! The FIRST OFFICER is the second most important role on a starship, next to the Captain...but in many ways, the MOST important role because of the pressure they can take OFF the Captain. At least that is what we are meant to believe. A SECOND-GUESSER is someone who attempts to anticipate or predict and in many ways, this is what a First Officer does to inform their Captain of every possible decision making angle. However, in both Star Trek DISCOVERY and The Orville, First Officers Michael Burnham and Kelley Grayson each have "second guessed" their respective captains and, especially in the case of Burnham, caused more harm than the intended good.

Sitting in with us in the Tactical Chair for this episode is our very special guest and co-founder of the Fandom Podcast Network - Kyle Wagner. And we have another fantastic round with The Omega 13 device and take a look at a very interesting topic for Subspace Signals about an ever escalating budget that may affect Star Trek Discovery moving forward.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 9: Designs of Future Past

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery AND The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

At times on DiscoVille, we will be on hiatus from actual real time broadcast releases. Not to worry - because aside from discussing the episodes, there are SO MANY aspects to these shows that we also want to discuss with you and for this episode, we wanted to talk about the visual stylization of both Star Trek Discovery and The Orville and how the costuming and prop teams for both series leaned fairly heavily on the Designs from their future's past...in this case The Original Series and ENTERPRISE for Discovery and The Next Generation era of 90's Trek for The Orville respectively.

Sitting in with us in the Tactical Chair for this episode is our very special guest and co-founder of the Fandom Podcast Network - Kyle Wagner. And we have a very interesting topic for Subspace Signals about a certain photo that was released on Twitter with a certain executive producer of The Orville with a certain former Betazoid Counselor from The Next Generation. Please…speculate amongst yourselves!

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 8: Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Firestorm

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery AND The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Firestorm is a play on the old “proverb” as we discuss the events which have led us - the fans and audience of Star Trek AND Discovery - from the 12 year "Dead Sea" of Star Trek on TV - to the premiere of DISCO on September 24th, through to the cliffhanger midseason finale as the DISCOVERY SPORE JUMPED "Out of the Frying Pan" of the Klingon War. Meanwhile on The Orville...Security Chief Lt. Alara Kitan literally ran "Into the Firestorm" of her own worst nightmares. Or were they?

Sitting in with us in the Tactical Chair for this episode is our very special guest - Hayley Stoddart - who you have heard on several special episodes of CULTURE CLASH discussing Orphan Black. Also on DiscoVille, we have some great selections yet again for the Omega 13 device and Kevin brings us some fantastic news about an OFFICIAL The Orville Sourcebook on Subspace Signals.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast Episode 7: There’s No Such Thing As Closure.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 7: There's No Such Thing As Closure.

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery AND The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

We had an AMAZING time recording this show...lots of fun, LOTS of puns, still waiting for BORTAS to drop the hammer on the Karaoke mike...and we LOVED having back on the show with us...Miss Amy Nelson from Trek.fm's Postcards from the Edge and Earl Grey podcasts.

The Title for this episode of DiscoVille is: There's No Such Thing As Closure. Cosmic threads still seem to tie these two shows together as The Discovery's crew needs closure post the Pahvan conflict...and on The Orville, Old Wounds open up once again between Ed and Kelly as they can't seem to get closure on from alien who originally drove them apart.

Also on DiscoVille, we have some great selections yet again for the Omega 13 device and our Subspace Signals focus on a great piece of news regarding The Orville's renewal and a wonderful e-mail from a loyal listener.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast Episode 6: The Six Degrees of Spockaration

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast
Episode 6: The Six Degrees of Spockaration

Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery AND The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom.

This episode of DiscoVille is titled "The Six Degrees of Spockaration" because in BOTH episodes, the main characters of SARU and ISSAC respectively, and their storylines, are heavily influenced by and channel several of Spock's most significant moments of character growth as seen on Star Trek The Original Series. On Star Trek Discovery, SARU's plight draws heavily from This Side of Paradise, where "spores" (as represented by the Pahvan, artificially implant a certain serenity and happiness in him, that he feels is worth sacrificing the mission to protect. In The Orville, this episode draws heavily from The Galileo Seven (amongst other shuttle missions gone awry) as ISSAC learns that logic and detachment is not the only way to survive a dire situation.

Also on DiscoVille, we have some great selections for the Omega 13 device AND our Subspace Signals focus on why fandom today is so contentious to the point where there can be ONLY one or the other...only Discovery OR The Orville. WHY CAN'T THERE BE ROOM FOR BOTH???

Star Trek Discovery Episode 6: MAGIC TO MAKE THE SANEST MAN GO MAD
Enter HARRY MUDD, who has discovered a devious temporal strategy that can exploit the USS Discovery and her crew - which would allow the Klingons to turn the tide against The Federation. What MUDD didn't count on was Burnham's and Tyler's burgeoning romance that became the wild card factor which a con man never sees coming. Time in fact does not heal all wounds...and, may even open a few new ones.

The Orville Episode 7: MAJORITY RULE
Captain Ed Mercer and the landing team discover that all of the inhabitants of Sargas Four wear a SPECIAL BADGE which is the basis of one’s SOCIAL and LEGAL standing in the eyes of the MAJORITY. Their mission goes sideways when Lt. Lamarr is caught disrespecting the statue of a beloved public figure. Their only hope...a café barista who accidentally discovers that the Landing Party is not who they appear to be.

Also on DiscoVille, we have some great selections for the Omega 13 device AND our Subspace Signals focus on a major concern regarding the current status of The Orville’s renewal projections for a second season.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 55: THE PRIZE…What Is It REALLY Worth?

October 31, 2017
00:0000:00
In the LORE of Highlander…the very last Immortal still alive at the end of the Gathering wins THE PRIZE; the ULTIMATE POWER from the knowledge and experiences of all the Immortals that have ever existed, becoming MORTAL and being able to have CHILDREN.

But what is the cost to achieve this ultimate PRIZE? What DRIVES Immortals to endure the pain, the loss, the sacrifice, the suffering and the loneliness that comes with fighting throughout decades, centuries, even millennia - watching their friends, their lovers, loved ones, even fellow Immortals die along the way to the time of The Gathering. Is the fight for THE PRIZE really worth all of this? Or is there something greater at stake in the eternal battle between GOOD and EVIL?

Join your Blood of Kings podcasters on this truly enlightening episode as Kevin and Norm try and make sense of what THE PRIZE means in the lore of the Highlander universe. NOTE: This episode was recorded BEFORE The Gathering Convention in Los Angeles so there are references to the convention that has already taken place.

DiscoVille: A Star Trek DISCOVERY and THE ORVILLE Podcast Episode 3: The Frenemy Within

October 18, 2017
00:0000:00
Welcome to DiscoVille where we discuss both Star Trek Discovery AND The Orville here on the Fandom Podcast Network. On this show we take an in-depth look at each of these shows and discover that both of them can co-exist in today's fandom...as they introduce us to fresh, new and exciting stories, characters, galactic destinations and so much more! On this episode of DiscoVille, we discuss:

The Orville Episode 6
Krill: After defeating a Krill warship attacking a nearby colony, which left a fully functioning Krill shuttlecraft adrift in the debris, Captain Ed Mercer and Lt. Gordon Malloy are given a mission that is vital to culturally understanding the enemy. But what they discover on board a Krill Warship, tests both of their mettle as they have to choose between the lesser of two evils...or even possibly three.

Star Trek Discovery Episode 5
Choose Your Pain: En route back to the Discovery from a Starfleet debriefing, Captain Lorca is abducted by a Klingon D-7 and thrown into a prison cell with Harcourt Fenton "Harry" Mudd (played brilliantly by Rainn Wilson). Mudd reminds Lorca that the "little" people are tired of being caught in Starfleet's crossfire and maybe it was Starfleet’s ARROGANCE to "boldly go" that may have forced the Klingons to push back in the first place.

Also on DiscoVille, we have some great selections for the Omega 13 device AND our Subspace Signals intercept a transmission from Social Media that is creating a disturbance amidst the fan communities, and has been for quite some time.

Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 54: The ARMORY Chronicles / The Weapons of Highlander Season One

October 16, 2017
00:0000:00
On this episode of Blood of Kings, we will be discussing the "primary" weapons used in Season One of Highlander the Television Series. These weapons, specifically SWORDS were the most signature ways that Immortals were able to survive the game, as they use their weapon of choice, and the martial skills they learned over the course of decades, centuries…even millennia to behead their opponent and gain their Quickening. Many of these swords were actually sold through the Noble Collection and Museum Replicas catalogues in the early to late 1990's and were perfect reference materials when trying to identify these Immortals' swords when we, the fans, originally watched the series in it's original broadcast run.

However, in a duel to the death, not every element went according to an Immortal’s plan, or a code of honor, or they just plain NEEDED an IRON PIPE if there was one handy; i.e. whatever worked to get the job done. #teamrionpipe

We on Blood of Kings also have to give credit where credit is due and we HAVE to give a shoutout to Blood of Kings member DANIEL JACOB HORINE who has created one of the most comprehensive sword profile guides we have ever seen; which was used several times in our research as a reference to quantify and correlate certain swords and their corresponding immortal users and episode appearances. BRAVO DANIEL…your hard work is absolutely worthy of the highest praise!
