On the special episode of Couch Potato Theater, your hosts Kevin Reitzel, Erin Gill, Kyle Wagner & Lacee Aderhold celebrate and discuss one of the most legendary and iconic action adventure movies of all time, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)! In this special Couch Potato Theater movies we're going to celebrate The 40th Anniversary of the original release (June 12th 1981) of Raiders of the Lost ark.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 1981 American action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, based on a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. It stars Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-Davies, and Denholm Elliott. Ford portrays Indiana Jones, a globe-trotting archaeologist vying with Nazi German forces in 1936 to recover the long-lost Ark of the Covenant, a relic said to make an army invincible. Teaming up with his tough former lover Marion Ravenwood (Allen), Jones races to stop rival archaeologist Dr. René Belloq (Freeman) from guiding the Nazis to the Ark and its power.

Spies Like Us is a 1985 American comedy directed by John Landis and starring Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Steve Forrest, and Donna Dixon. The film presents the comic adventures of two bumbling government employees who think they are U.S. spies, only to discover that they are actually decoys for Nuclear War. The film is an homage to the famous Road to … film series which starred Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Hope himself makes a cameo in one scene. Other cameos in the film include directors Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi, Costa-Gavras, Martin Brest, Frank Oz, and Joel Coen, musician B.B. King, and visual effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen.

This episode guest stars Tamlyn Tomita and Robert Ito as Hideo Koto, The Samurai. The topic of this episode focuses on this fan favorite episode and Robert Ito, because we are featuring Highlander TV series guest stars that appeared in more than one episode as different characters. Robert Ito also guest stared in the season 2 episode "Revenge Of The Sword". The Samurai is Robert Ito's second appearances on the Highlander TV series, as a different character. The Highlander episode "Revenge Of The Sword" aired September 2nd 1994.

Episode Plot Synopsis:

After Midori Koto (Tamlyn Tomita) sees her husband, rich industrialist Michael Kent (Stephen McHattie), murder her lover, she kills Kent and runs to MacLeod for protection. She reminds MacLeod of a vow of protection his "ancestor" made to her family over 200 years before. Flashbacks tell the story of MacLeod coming to the aid of the samurai Hideo Koto after MacLeod is shipwrecked in Japan. Hideo befriends MacLeod - even though the penalty for helping a "barbarian" in isolationist Japan is death. When Hideo is forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) by his feudal overlord for that crime, MacLeod serves as his second. He vows to Hideo he will always protect the Koto family and is bequeathed the dragon head katana sword he uses to this day. Back in the present, MacLeod discovers that Kent is an Immortal and he's still alive. In order not to further dishonor her family's name, Midori returns to Kent. Kent challenges MacLeod, who fulfills his vow to the Koto family and frees Midori from her loveless marriage.

Blood Of Kings HIGHLANDER Podcast 146: THE DUELLISTS (1977) The Movie That Inspired HIGHLANDER (1986).

Screenwriter Gregory Widen wrote the script to the original Highlander (1986), originally titled “Shadow Clan”, as a class assignment while he was an undergraduate in the screenwriting program at UCLA. He was inspired by the story while visiting a museum in Scotland where he came across a suit of armor and wondered what it would have been like if the man who wore the armor was alive today. The Duellists (1977) was one of his inspirations for the film. Imagine dueling someone over many years, something immortals in the Highlander universe know all too well.

The Duellists is a 1977 British historical drama film and the feature directorial debut of Ridley Scott. It won the Best Debut Film award at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival. The original story is based on a true story! The basis of the screenplay is the Joseph Conrad short story "The Duel" (titled "Point of Honor" in the United States). Your Blood of Kings Highlander Podcast hosts Kevin Reitzel and Lee Fillingsness review the film and discuss the films impact, history, swords, duel fighting and director Ridley Scott's beautiful work on a then very low budget film.

Plot Synopsis: Set during the grand, sweeping Napoleonic age, an officer in the French army insults another officer and sets off a life-long enmity. The two officers, D'Hubert and Feraud, cross swords time and time again in an attempt to achieve justice and preserve their honor.

Guest Star Double Take! Your Blood of Kings Highlander Podcast hosts Kevin Reitzel and Lee Fillingsness review the Highlander TV Series, Season 2, Episode 8 "Revenge Of The Sword". This episode guest stars are Dustin Nguyen as Jimmy Sang and Robert Ito as Johnny Leong. The topic of this episode focuses on Dustin Nguyen, because we are featuring Highlander TV series guest stars that appeared in more than one episode as different characters. Coincidently Robert Ito guest stars in this episode as we also discuss that this is Robert Ito's first of two appearances on the Highlander TV series, as different characters.

Highlander episode "Revenge Of The Sword" aired November 19th 1993. Episode Plot Synopsis:

Charlie's young friend Jimmy Sang (Dustin Nguyen) films a Kung Fu movie in the dojo. As a stuntman is poisoned and the set is vandalized, it becomes clear that someone wants to stop the production. MacLeod reluctantly agrees to protect the young, arrogant star. MacLeod discovers Jimmy used to work for underground boss Johnny Leong and revealed Leong's gang activities in the movie script. Jimmy decides to kill Leong himself, but he is overpowered by Leong's men. MacLeod fights them and frees Jimmy.
