Blood of Kings: A Highlander Podcast Episode 29: The RULES of the GAME

March 1, 2017

“Why does the sun come up? Or are the stars just pin holes in the curtain of night...who knows? What I do know is that because you were born different, men will fear you... try to drive you the people of your village. You must learn to conceal your special gift and harness it until the time of The Gathering. When only a few of us are left, we will feel an irresistible pull towards a far away land... to fight for The Prize. We must fight until only one remains. You are safe only on Holy Ground. None of us will violate that rule. It's tradition.”

- Juan Sanchez Villa Lobos Ramirez to Connor MacLeod circa 1541

One of the most important (yet inconsistent) elements in the history of the Highlander franchise is understanding the RULES of the Immortal Game. Why can there be only ONE? What if the last two who remain no longer want the ultimate prize? Why can some Immortals like Kane choose to ignore the “tradition” of Holy Ground, when even the most ruthless of Immortals like the Kurgan do not? When did challenge by way of single combat become an established rule of The Game? Who enforces these rules and what are the penalties of ignoring them - especially Holy Ground?

Join Kevin and Norm as they try to make sense of a very convoluted topic with the help and feedback from members of the Blood of Kings Facebook page. As difficult as it was trying to make sense of the thing is for certain: In the end, there can be only FUN!!! Enjoy.
